Linkin Park links up with EA for Medal of Honor 28 Jul 2010
From usatoday.com:
The first single from A Thousand Suns, the upcoming album from alt-rockers Linkin Park, arrives Sunday (Aug. 1) in a trailer for the video game Medal of Honor (go to www.medalofhonor.com/linkinpark). The single, The Catalyst, will also appear on the soundtrack of the game, due Oct. 12 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PCs in Oct. Linkin Park's Joe Hahn directed the trailer. (Get a sneak listen to the song on the teaser video above.)
"The song itself has got some dark undertones and it's got a lot of energy in it," says Linkin Park bassist David "Phoenix" Farrell. "It kind of just fits with the subject matter." A Thousand Suns is set to be released Sept. 14.
More from our conversation with Phoenix:
How'd you guys hook up with Electronic Arts on this? There's a couple of steps to it, but most of us are pretty into video games and have been for a long time. We know that also extends into our fan base as well. A huge percentage of our fan base are gamers. The opportunity presented itself for us to be able to do some music and some things with Medal of Honor and it just seemed like a really good fit.
What type of video games do you like to play? Me personally, I like sports games and I like first-person shooters.
Had you played the older Medal of Honor games? Yeah, I remember my first version was on this old Dell computer I had. It must have been 10 or 11 years ago when the first ones were coming out. I kept up with the title and I'm really excited this is the first one that they are doing outside of the World War 2 story line. It will be cool to see how they transition it. I think it will work well with the song we did for it.
Could you tell me a bit about the song and why it was chosen to be in the trailer? So the song is called The Catalyst and it is going to be the first single off the new record. It's going to be hitting radio Aug. 2. So it's going to be cool that people are going to be becoming familiar with the game and the single at the same time. It's also going to be the first music people hear off of A Thousand Suns. When we were talking with EA and being familiar with the Medal of Honor title I think the song made a lot of sense. The song has a feel that just fits the game. The song itself has got some dark undertones and it's got a lot of energy in it. It kind of just fits with the subject matter.

How would you describe the album? That's a tough question for us with this record. It's something we're asked every time we come out with something new. But this record, more than anything before, we really pushed ourselves to do something we hadn't done before. We worked with a lot of sounds and arrangements that we weren't familiar with, well, anyone doing at the moment. It's just one of those records where I think people are going to have to hear it and sit with it a little bit, hopefully listen to it from front to back and get a feel for what's going on vibe-wise and where it's going as a journey. We definitely made it to be listened to as a journey, as a 45-minute album.
What is the trailer like? Joe still directing the commercial or the game trailer. Joe is our DJ and he has directed perhaps 90% of our videos in the past. He has always loved that medium. I haven't seen what he's going to do yet but it's going to be awesome and I think it's going to be a cool way for fans to get in contact early with the song and with what they are doing with the game. I know they filmed a ton of it yesterday and I know he's working on it today (Tuesday). Otherwise you'd most likely be talking to him. That makes the most sense but he's locked up in an editing cave somewhere.
So is there footage of the band in the trailer? No. They were shooting in this area that they used for Iron Man in the scenes used to make it look like Afghanistan. It's just an hour and a half outside of L.A.

The announcement suggested there might be more collaboration down the road between the band and EA. What do you foresee? I definitely think we could do things with them down the road. It was a good and fun partnership on our end. I know our fans are gamers and it is a cool way to get your music heard. Not only to our fans but obviously there are people playing the games who aren't fans or aren't familiar with our music. So it's a good way to reach out on a lot of different levels.

Black Rock Shooter to Add Extra with Linkin Park's Hahn 26 Jul 2010
From animenewsnetwork.com:
The retail Special Edition of the Black Rock Shooter anime will include a stop-motion video as a bonus extra, and the video extra will feature a remix of supercell's "Black Rock Shooter" song by Joe Hahn, the DJ of the American rock band Linkin Park. The announcement was made during the Asa Made Nama Won-Hobby TV 8 web show on Sunday and in the September issue of Hobby Japan magazine on Saturday. The stop-motion film extra was "made in Hollywood."
Hobby Japan magazine bundled the Black Rock Shooter anime on a free DVD with its September issue, and the anime will also be included in free DVD extras in Gakken's Megami Magazine (July 30) and Gakken's Monthly Animedia magazine (August 10). The project's website had already announced in March that this anime based on huke's character illustrations will be streamed for free to "everyone." The anime is slated to have subtitles in seven languages, and the official website launched an English version on Friday.

Mike & Chester in a Movie? 24 Jul 2010
From mikeshinodaclan.com:
Also, PinkyLouLou found that both Mike and Chester are listed on IMDB to appear in the film Dark As Day! Mike as a taxi driver and Chester as a mugger. View the cast and film information on IMDB here, I must stress that I think we should consider this as a rumor until we hear something more official.
